IAWE mission statement:
The International Association for World Englishes (IAWE) aims to establish international links among those involved with any aspect of World Englishes in research and/or teaching. The association focuses on global issues relating to three major aspects of World Englishes: language, literature, and pedagogy. As an organization, IAWE is committed to the study of the forms and functions of English in diverse cultural and sociolinguistic contexts.
Theme
Theory and Application: World Englishes in World Contexts
A wide range of topics are typically covered at IAWE conferences, including but not restricted to the following:
- Diverse disciplinary perspectives on world Englishes, such as anthropological,
critical, discourse, 'features-based', genre, historical, and sociolinguistic
studies
- Various approaches, such as corpus linguistics, contact linguistics, and creolistics and world Englishes
- Language planning and politics
- Domains of use, such as English in media and advertising or the classroom among others
- Issues, such as power, ideology, and identity; evaluation, testing, and intelligibility; second and foreign language acquisition and pedagogy; bilingual creativity in English literatures
